WHAT DOES MI2 BRING TO THE TABLE?

This is a very good album.

I would have loved to start and end this review like this but my editor says he’d like a few more lines. So here goes!

People had been asking, well where is M.I’s second album? The question was, could it be as effective as the first? And now, we don’t have to wait any longer. M.I2 is here!

And it sounds good. No, I don’t mean in terms of how good the songs are, but it sounds really good. Their tempos might differ but the songs flow and are well mixed, and there’s no need to skip tracks.

We know M.I is a good rapper (I’d say great but this is my non-gushing review), and he uses his similes and references well. The success of his first album shows he has a good following. And he blends lyrical correctness with commercial comprehension (thought I’d throw in a few big words).

So what does M.I 2 bring to the table?

Early crowd favourites include ‘action film’, ‘number one’, ‘my head my belle’, ‘one naira’ and ‘imperfect me’.

Mine are ‘action film’ (great way to start an album), ‘beef’, and  ‘undisputed’. There was a leaked version of ‘nobody’ with 2face before the album came out and I think I prefer that version to what made the cut. But it’s still a collaboration that works!

The skits, thank-yous and interesting collabos make a comeback.

The ‘imperfect me’ skit must have been the toughest to leave on that album! To have your flaws exposed to the millions that will buy your album?

Will Praise be the new Wizkid? Not physically (seeing as Praise is taller than Wiz) but in terms of using his feature on an M.I album and then building on it? Well…

The usual suspects collabo-wise are missing but those who did make the cut brought their depth and versatility. Flavour’s hook rocks!

Is ‘action film’ the new ‘anoti’ in terms of mass appeal? And which song will have the longest staying power? (A voice whispers ‘my belle’)

I listen to M.I 2, not only to review it, but because it works -As a sophomore album, and as an album. Period!

But the greatest M.I 2 experience you can have is to see M.I live.
