SYLVA WOOS FILM MAKERS TO BAYELSA

After hosting the prestigious African Movie Academy Awards(AMAA) for five consecutive times, without anything to show for it, Bayelsa State government is set to woo film makers to the state.

The government is actualising this dream through the production of a big budget documentary on the oil rich State and its har-working helmsman, Timipre Sylva. Also, there is a plan to build a film village in the state, source has disclosed.

Pioneer actor, and action film maker Tarila Obrebai Thompson who produced this documentary said, during a sneak preview of the production in Lagos, that the idea behind the project is to ensure that the film makers and the star-actors return to Bayelsa after every AMAA event.

“ Bayelsa have been hosting AMAA every year, but the State does not have the enabling environment to attract film makers to come to the State to shoot their films. Governor Sylva has taken up the challenge to put in place infrastructure that will attract film makers to return to Bayelsa after each AMAA event.”

Entitled, “Bayelsa: A State in Motion” , the 60 minutes self-sponsored project, shot with hi_tech equipment specially brought in from the US, highlights the few privileged think tankers working with bowler hats donning Sylva, towards taking Bayelsa to the next level.

According to Thompson, who has several  hit Nollywood flicks to his credit, the well-scripted and painstakingly shot documentary is currently running on local and cable stations, including  NTA and  AIT stations.

The one-hour documentary, which is divided into part One and Two, premiered amid glitz  about a month ago in Bayelsa.

Thompson, who produced such notable films as “Against All Odds”, “More Than A Woman”, “ARISTOS(Don’t dare them)”, “Deep Loss”, “ Power Of Love”, “Secret Evil” “Silent For life” and  “Passion And Pain” said, it took him about six months to shoot the documentary, which he described as “a highly investigative work.”

In his words, “I cannot afford to be bias at this point. The documentary captures  in details, the strides of Sylva in the last one and half years in all areas of good governance. It is a comprehensive documentary and we personally did physical examination of the performances of Governor Sylva.”
