R. Kelly storms Nigeria

American Superstar and multiple Grammy Award winner, R. Kelly, will be the special guest artiste at this year’s edition of the Star Mega Jam, a yearly musical concert sponsored by Nigerian Breweries makers of star lager beer.

This choice of the American according to Mr. Yusuf Ageni, the company’s Corporate Affairs Adviser was informed by the desire to sustain the high international profile of the event.

“As you know, this year’s Star Mega Jam coincides with the golden jubilee anniversary of Nigeria’s independence. As a truly Nigerian brand, and a co-celebrant with Nigeria, Star rolled out a series of activities to mark this important milestone.

The stars on parade have been very carefully selected to ensure that fun-loving Nigerians have a truly wonderful time, and enjoy their money’s worth to the fullest.”, he said.

R. Kelly, the three-time Grammy Award winning King of R & B, has sold over 34 million records in his 18 unbroken years of stardom. From the tantalizing eight times platinum,  to the Grammy-award winning anthem ‘I Believe I Can Fly’, to his recent hit single ‘I’m a Flirt’ with Bow Wow, that garnered a 2008 ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Award, R. Kelly is the essence of true R&B.

A prolific artist, he churns out albums on a yearly basis from his Chocolate Factory studios in the heart of Chicago, drawing from the spirit of his musical forefathers Curtis Mayfield and Donnie Hathaway.

The Nigerian acts who are expected to join R. Kelly on stage during the show include, P Square, D’Banj, Mohits Crew, Faze, MI, Timaya, Sound Sultan and 9ice . The list also includes  past Star Quest winners KC Presh, Diamonds, The Pulse and Jukebox.

This year’s Star Mega Jam, which is the eleventh edition, will hold at the LagosPolo Club grounds, Ikoyi on Friday, 17th December and in Abuja at the Old Parade Grounds on Saturday, 18th December.

Gate fee for Lagos and Abuja will be maintained at 500 Naira while VIP tickets will go for 5,000 Naira only.
