Jonathan arrives in Addis-Ababa for 16th AU Summit

President Goodluck Jonathan Friday arrived Ethiopia for the 16th Ordinary AU Summit.

The Ethiopian Minister of Water Resources, Mr. Alemuyehu Tageru, received President Jonathan and his entourage at the Bole International Airport,  alongside the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Odein Ajumogobia and the Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Thaddeus Hart.

On the entourage of the President were his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, the wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Helen Mark and  top government functionaries.

The First Lady is expected to participate in a Special Session of all African First Ladies at the 3-Day Summit.

President Jonathan last night took part in a special meeting of the African Union

Peace and Security Council and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on the political crisis in Cote d’ Ivoire.

The joint meeting of the AU Peace and Security Council and ECOWAS will decide on the step to take to put an end to the political crisis in that country.

The President is scheduled to meet with the Nigerian community in Ethiopia today.

The 16th Ordinary AU Summit with the theme, “Towards Greater Unity and Integration through shared Value” is aimed at identifying measures to be adopted to facilitate continental integration based on shared values.

The Summit will also provide measures and steps to be taken to provide a solid foundation for building a more prosperous Africa.
