I never kissed Charly Boy – Denrele

You’ve seen the photos and probably read the reports that indicted Nigeria’s weirdest TV personality and popular red carpet host, Denrele Edun; and self-acclaimed Area Fada, Charly Boy as having homosexual tendencies and possibly being in a relationship. Twenty-seven year old Denrele has come out to say things are not the way they appear.

The pictures that suggested that the two men- one, single, the other a veteran grandfather, were more than platonic friends, surfaced on the internet about a month ago and the media discussed it back and forth for weeks. Hardly has the smoke fizzled out, Denrele has disclosed to Showtime that ‘I didn’t kiss him (Charly Boy)’.

“I have tried to be really good this year. But somehow controversy just trails me. I’ve received all manner of hate messages since those pictures circulated. I had Twitter management route all tweets mentioning my name to my address.

And as much as I’m not bothered about all the hate, the truth remains that I’m human too”, he explained.
Charly Boy (real names Charles Oputa) had earlier been quoted in an interview to have said that he loves Denrele and that ‘sexual preference is an individual’s prerogative’. Charles Oputa is approaching his sixties and married to Diane- an American.

Denrele in a different publication was reported as saying,  he had no regrets. ‘I have come a long way and I know what I want at any point in point. My sexual life is my private business. It has nothing to do with the photographs’. The red carpet host was at one time linked romantically with Titi Adelagun – then of music channel, Soundcity (where Denrele works) but now a radio host on Inspiration FM, Lagos.
