BOY, 18 BAGS 3 MONTHS JAIL TERM FOR STEALING

An Abuja Magistrate court sitting in wuse zone 2 yesterday slammed 3 months imprisonment on an 18-year-old boy, Thompson Faasama for stealing and mischief by fire.

Thompson Faasama, a cleaner with Assorted Foods Ltd Abuja was caught red-handed with N517,095 money belonging to his company and consequently arrested by the police on the 7th of December 2010.

Police arraigned the accused person on December 13, over joint act, mischief by fire and theft, offences contravening section 79, 336 and 289 of the penal code law. But he pleaded not guilty and he was remanded in police custody.

The accused yesterday made a U-turn by changing his plea as he re-echoed before the court that he committed the offence.

Magistrate Aminu Abdulahi in a summary trial convicted and sentenced the accused to three months  imprisonment without an option of fine.

The prosecutor, Corporal Mohammed Ahmed told the Court that Thompson Faasama, a cleaner and Obina John, a security man both of Assorted Food Ltd Abuja conspired together to set the company’s generator on fire and stole N517,095 money belong to the company.

“That on the 7th of December 2010, one Hamza Kabiru of Assorted Food Ltd, Aminu Kano Crecsent Wuse II Abuja came to Maitama Police Station and reported that you Thompson Faasama, a cleaner formed common intention together with one Obina John, a security man (now at large) of the same address voluntarily set fire on  fire their generator, thereby drawing the attention of company’s staff away.

“And you entered Cashier’s office and stole the sum of N517, 095, and you were caught with the money instantly in a black bag”. The prosecutor said.
