THE STARS SHINE AT NMVA ‘10

From the busy green carpet, right into the main hall, guests couldn’t help but look around in high expectations for the night. Last Sunday, November 28th, stars from the Nigerian music and movie industry trooped into the new Expo Hall of the Eko Hotels in Lagos for the fourth edition of the Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA).

Organisers of the event, Callivision network, ensured it was a green night reflective of the Nigerian house colour. Zack Orji and wife, Omotola Ekeinde, Frank Edoho, Yeni Kuti, Stella Damasus, Susan Patrick, Tana Adelana, Weird MC, Gbenga Adeyinka, Ben Murray Bruce, Djinee, Sound Sultan, MoHits crew, Choc Boiz, Kaffy are only some of the celebs who made the show classy.

Europe based JJC was the first winner of the show that saw Dipp, 2Face, and Clarence Peters tying as biggest winners of the night. One of the surprises of the night was singer Banky’s single win in the Best R N B category, in spite of having four nominations. Kennis Music artistes- KSB and Goldie, provided the emotional periods of the night as KSB confessed to the crowd that winning Best Gospel video was her first award in twelve years.

She had rehearsed acceptance speech severally in time past but never got to deliver them until today (last Sunday). Goldie on the other hand broke down in tears and could barely make it through her speech on winning the Best Use of Costume in a music video award.

A ten minutes documentary on 15 years of Livebeats- the music programme that gave birth to NMVA was shown while also chronicling the growth of Nigeria’s Music industry in the same years. The documentary got people laughing as it showed today’s stars as they were back in the days.

Other winners at the event included, Djinee, Bouqui, Solidstar, J Martins, T.W.O, Sound Sultan, Fela DekunleFuji and Tosin Igho. Sole inductee into the NMVA, Ben Murray Bruce, gave an inspiring speech at the event charging all to keep faith in the Nigerian entertainment industry and promising to prevail on Mr President to double the $200M raise he promised to invest into the industry.

While Gbenga Adeyinka came in from time to time to crack up guests, broadcasters Titi Adelagun and Israel Edjeren were the official anchors of the event. Comedian CD John sang guests to worship during his time on stage.

Kas, SoundSultan, General Pype, Ara, Bouqui, Choc Boiz and MoHits Crew all thrilled guests with musical performances.

The night wound which began at 8:45pm wound down shortly before 12am next day.
